24H SERIES in 2022: a return to Spa Francorchamps and Sebring

News | October 18, 2021

GENNEP (18 October, 2021) – CREVENTIC is very pleased to announce that the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook will return to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the Sebring International Raceway in 2022 alongside its established 24-hour events at the Dubai Autodrome, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and the Autódromo do Algarve.

The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps first collaborated with CREVENTIC for a TCE-only 12-hour event in 2017 before returning to the 24H SERIES calendar for multi-division events in 2018 and 2019. The latter proved to be particularly significant, featuring as it did one of the closest finishes in series history between the overall winner Bohemia Energy racing with Scuderia Praha and runner-up Herberth Motorsport.

Similarly, and ahead of the inaugural Hankook 24H SEBRING on 18-19-20 November, management at the Sebring International Raceway has already agreed terms with CREVENTIC to host the 24H SERIES season finale again in 2022. This will mark the fourth time in five years that CREVENTIC’s competitive year will draw to a close with a 24-hour endurance race in North America.

Ole Dörlemann, CREVENTIC's sporting coordinator: “For many years, CREVENTIC has proudly strived to create the most competitively challenging yet enjoyable program for its competitors, and we’re confident that the 24H SERIES calendar for 2022 can do just that once again. Next season, across the Middle East, Europe and North America, we will visit some of motorsport’s most epochal racing venues, each of which offers its own unique blend of heritage and on-track technicality, and to have this kind of support is a huge shot in the arm for the 24H SERIES.”

The 24H SERIES’ showcase race – the Hankook 24H DUBAI – kicks the season off for the 17th time on 13-14-15 January at the Dubai Autodrome. Held in the United Arab Emirates each year since 2006, the Hankook 24H DUBAI is among the first endurance motor races to be held at the beginning of every new year, and in 2022, will be followed one week later by the non-championship Hankook 6H ABU DHABI. The Yas Marina Circuit was featured on the 24H SERIES for only the second time earlier this year, and following a successful six-hour motor race, an agreement was quickly made to continue the event in 2022 on 21-22 January.

CREVENTIC’s European season gets underway on 25-26 March at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello in Italy. One of the 24H SERIES’ most tenured races, the Hankook 12H MUGELLO has been held every year bar one since 2014.

One month later on 22-23-24 April, the 24H SERIES will return to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the Hankook 12H SPA. Given both the circuit’s heritage, which dates back to 1921, and its sweeping layout through the Ardennes, the home of the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix is expected to be a popular addition to the calendar with CREVENTIC’s competitors.

Ole Dörlemann, CREVENTIC's sporting coordinator: “CREVENTIC has enjoyed a mutually beneficial working relationship with the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for several years now, and it’s a great pleasure to welcome Belgium’s most famous racing facility back on to the 24H SERIES calendar. This is an event that competitors and fans alike have been very enthusiastic to see make its return, and we’re very confident that an opportunity race through the Ardennes at one of the most technically satisfying circuits in Europe will be high on our drivers’ bucket lists.”

The Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg held Germany’s first ever round of the 24H SERIES in 2020 with an experimental 16-hour format, and will host the fourth championship round of 2022 on 13-14-15 May. The Hankook 12H HOCKENHEIMRING will be followed by round five of the championship at the Autódromo do Algarve in Portugal on 8-9-10 July. After the outbreak of Covid-19, the Hankook 24H PORTIMAO was the first international motor race to be held anywhere in Europe in July 2020.

After the series’ traditional summer break, endurance racing action resumes with the Hankook 24H BARCELONA at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 9-10-11 September. One of the most celebrated events on the 24H SERIES calendar, the circuit’s 24-hour motor race was first held as a touring car-only event between 1998 and 2009 before being revived as a multi-division affair by CREVENTIC for 2011. The ‘Trofeo Fermí Vélez’ has paid tribute to the two-time Sebring 12 Hours winner since 2003.

Lastly, the 2022 24H SERIES powered by Hankook season finale will take place on 18-19-20 November, and, for the second year in a row, will be held at the vaunted Sebring International Raceway. No racing is set to take place in October in CREVENTIC’s efforts to ease travel logistics for its competitors.

Alongside its new calendar, CREVENTIC is also pleased to announce the return of the Championship of the Continents to the 24H SERIES for 2022. Introduced as an auxiliary title in 2017, the revived Championship of the Continents will run alongside with the European season next season, and will be awarded to both the GT team and the TCE team that achieves the highest cumulative score at the Hankook 24H DUBAI, the Hankook 24H SEBRING, and its best-scoring European round.

Tyres, and full service and technical support will be supplied at every race by CREVENTIC partner Hankook Tires.

Each event will feature a 90-minute Free Practice session following by division-split qualifying to ascertain the grid formation. Teams and competitors interested in any of the events scheduled for 2022 can register multiple entries HERE
