Everyone wants a word! The Formula 1 record holder was a man in demand at the Hankook 12H MONZA, only his second race in Italy since 2011.

Rubens Barrichello lined up alongside Brazilian compatriots Eduardo Menossi and Marcos Vinicius Neves in the #950 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup, and all seemed to be going well at first when they posted the fifth fastest 992 time during Free Practice. Unfortunately, the former Ferrari driver’s qualifying session was brought to a premature end after a shunt into the Ascari barriers, and Q1 Trackracing slipped to 16th on the overall grid.

Q1 Trackracing is in the mix with former Overall GT Teams’ champion Herberth Motorsport, but, sadly, there’s slightly more to this image than meets the eye. Remnants of a puncture just over an hour into the race took out some of the Porsche’s bodywork too. Look closely, and you can see the rear left part of the back bumper is missing…

So far, so good! Well, sort of. Rubens’ enthusiasm masks a trying first half of the Hankook 12H MONZA, which involved a moment in the gravel, a time penalty, and handling issues caused by the earlier puncture. The 11-time GP winner though, who started and ended ‘part one’ of the event for Q1 Trackracing, got the car to parc fermé in one piece with six hours of recovery driving left to go.

Many in the Autodromo Nazionale Monza paddock would loved to have seen Formula 1’s ‘Mr Nice Guy’ take a class podium on his 24H SERIES debut. Sadly, Q1 Trackracing continued to be plagued by handling issues on the Sunday, and Menossi was eventually forced to park the #950 just over 10 hours into the race.
