Teamwork Motorsport, a former podium finisher at the TCR SPA 500, has taken delivery of three brand new Lynk & Co 03 TCR cars as it considers a number of TCR programs in Asia.
The Hong Kong based outfit finished 3rd in PRO-Am at the inaugural TCR SPA 500 last year as ‘Teamwork Huff Motorsport’, in deference to its partnership with 2013 World Touring Car Champion, Rob Huff. On that occasion, Teamwork Motorsport competed with an Audi RS3 LMS, as it did on its 24H SERIES debut at the 2019 Hankook 24H DUBAI.
Now, the 2018 TCR China champion is currently evaluating programs in both the TCR Asia and the TCR China with its new line-up. Having also expressed an interest in returning to the 24H SERIES next year in Dubai, it’s not inconceivable that one or more of the new Lynk & Co 03 TCRs could make their series debut next January.
“We're excited to work with Geely Group Motorsport and Lynk & Co not only on the circuits, but also enjoy the huge support from the Chinese fans,” explains Teamwork Motorsport Team Principal, Paul Hui, at its Guangdong headquarters. “We are looking forward to a really strong season.
“We have a close dialogue with organisers of the championships mentioned and we are ready for when the circumstances are there to race again.”
A new addition to the TCR scene, the Lynk & Co 03 TCR made its competitive debut last year in the World Touring Car Cup, collecting eight wins and 21 podiums in the process, as well as the teams’ title for Cyan Racing (formerly Polestar Racing). Based on the same platform as Volvo’s compact XC40 – Volvo, like Lynch Lynk & Co, is also owned by the Geely Group – the 03 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder as required by TCR technical regulations. 350hp and 420Nm (310lb ft) of torque are sent to the front wheels via a paddle-operated six-speed sequential gearbox, while the kerb weight is a modest 1,265kg.
On top of a strengthened Geely chassis lies aero-optimised, wind tunnel-tested bodywork complete with front splitter and rear spoiler, and composite-built front bumper, side skirts, and wheel arches, the latter of which surround 18in OZ Racing wheels that are connected to MacPherson (front) and multi-link (rear) suspension. Testing of Lynk & Co’s first TCR car was conducted in part by former World Touring Car Champions Andy Priaulx and Yvan Muller.
As proof of its performance, a ‘Cyan Concept’ road-going version of the Lynk & Co 03 TCR set a new lap record around the Nordschleife for both four-door saloons and front-wheel drive cars, its 7m 20.143s undercutting both Jaguar’s XE SV Project 8 and the Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R in August last year.
