A popular addition to the Hankook 12H SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, the Malmedy City parade was introduced to the event for 2022, and returns to ‘open’ the 2024 edition once again on Thursday 18 April. In 2023, CP Racing got proceedings underway by leading 48 GT and TCE cars out of the ‘support’ pitlane and on to the track.

Once on-track, the field, including VDS Racing Adventures’ bespoke MARC II V8, completed most of the 7.004km before peeling onto the circuit’s perimeter road by the Bus Stop chicane.

All at safe cruising speeds and behind the circuit’s safety car, by the way. Just in case you were wondering how this VDS mechanic managed to get on to an active track without a helmet!

From there, it’s a 10.3km drive – on public roads! – to the centre of Malmedy, where each of the 48 race cars were parked on display for the evening. Quite the unorthodox view!

And yes, don’t worry, CREVENTIC worked with regional police to ensure this was all done on closed roads and with as little disruption as possible to local traffic.

When the field arrives in Malmedy city centre, they are welcomed by motor racing fans and local residents alike down both sides of Chemin Rue.

This, incidentally, is not the first time that the Lionspeed GP Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 would be at the head of a train of cars: the German team, then collaborating with SRS Team Sorg Rennsport, remained well in the fight for GT4 victory, and ultimately finished 3rd in-class.

Look past Black Falcon’s Porsche 992 GT3 Cup, and in the background, you’ll see the L'obélisque de Malmedy, which was erected with the financial assistance of – and a symbol of power by – ‘prince-abbé’ Jacques de Hubin in 1781. Round the corner – sadly out of shot – is the ‘Malmundarium’ historical visitors’ centre where the pre-race driver’s briefing was held!

Race fans also had the opportunity to meet the drivers competing at the Hankook 12H SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS during the parade, and get a cheeky autograph!

Never too late to start! A young fan experiences, firsthand, what it’s like to be behind the wheel of a GT racer. By the way, anybody know which car this is? Our best guess is the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup of Belgium’s PK Carsport…

All smiles. Aliyyah Koloc is clearly enjoying herself in Malmedy. One year earlier, her team – Buggyra ZM Racing – had made its 24H SERIES debut. In 2023, having survived a terrifying, high-speed aquaplane across the grass on the approach to Eau Rouge, Aliyyah and the #416 Mercedes-AMG GT4 celebrated their first European win of the season

Turns out a rear spoiler can be used to generate something equally as important as downforce!

Juta Racing’s Aurimas Jablonskis takes a good look at the Saintéloc Junior Team Audi R8 LMS that, aptly, would go on to take its first overall 24H SERIES win on the Sunday. Juta Racing’s race sadly ended at the end Sunday’s opening lap with a spin – on, in fairness, VERY cold tyres – into the wall.

Ever the showmen! Ebimotors’ Fabrizio Broggi, Sergiu Nicolae and Sabino de Castro speak with parade compere Vincent Franssen. If you’re wondering why the trio have been joined by an inflatable camel, Willi Motorsport by Ebimotors had recently taken 992 honours in the inaugural 24H SERIES Middle East Trophy.
