Our magazine for the 2021 Hankook 12H MUGELLO is now available for digital download. This month, we take a look at the seven-year history of the event, introduce you to a new virtual endurance racing series under the CREVENTIC umbrella, and look ahead to one of the most exciting additions to the 24H SERIES calendar, the Hankook 24H SEBRING. Fans of the Raging Bull might also want to check out our deep dive on the Lamborghini Huracán GT3. All that and more in this month’s magazine.
Two months removed from the Hankook 24H DUBAI, the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook is finally back in action at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello for the start of the European season.
The Tuscan circuit hosts the Hankook 12H MUGELLO for the seventh time in eight years this weekend, and, following a ‘challenging’ 2020 – to say the least! – returns to its traditional spot at the head of the European calendar. Of course, as a regular fixture on the 24H SERIES calendar since 2014, last year was just the latest chapter in the event’s storied history. Radiolemans.com’s own Joe Bradley even delves behind the Autodromo’s garage doors HERE.
With grid sizes dutifully on the rise again, this year’s Hankook 12H MUGELLO looks set to be a closely-fought affair. Two-time event winners Herberth Motorsport and Scuderia Praha for example are both back in action, the former with its largest line-up to-date, the latter as one of three Ferraris already confirmed for Tuscany. Dubai class winners Leipert Motorsport (GTX) and ST Racing (GT4) will no doubt have the 24H SERIES championship already in their crosshairs. And local fans will want to keep a close eye on an Italian-rich 991 class, among which, is former Hankook 24H DUBAI winner Stadler Motorsport, back after a five-year series hiatus.
Of course, with Mugello ‘back where it belongs’, this year’s season-closer will instead take place at the famed Sebring International Raceway. One of the most exciting additions to the 24H SERIES, the ‘Birthplace of American Endurance Racing’ is set to host its first-ever 24-hour international endurance event on 18-19-20 November. Looking ahead to 2021, endurance racing fans might also want to read up on the brand new CREVENTIC Endurance Series, a brand-new initiative with iRacing.
Fans of the Raging Bull – which is most of you, right? – will want to check out our in-depth look at the Lamborghini Huracán GT3, a contender in the 24H SERIES since 2015 and a two-time Hankook 24H DUBAI polesitter in the experienced hands of GRT Grasser Racing Team. You might also want to read up on Mathieu Jaminet’s unofficial link with 1995 World Rally Champion Colin McRae, and why Roberto Pampanini’s helmet design tends to match the car he’s racing.
Okay, that should hopefully keep you all busy until the green flag drops on Friday afternoon. As always, we’d like to sign off with a huge thank you to all of our competitors, fans, supporters, marshals and everyone in race control for their dedication this weekend, as well as the management and staff at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello. Let’s make history once again in 2021!
