This year’s Hankook 12H MUGELLO marks the 10th edition of the event since 2014. The race has been held at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello every year, bar one, since then, and on all but one occasion at the start of the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook European season: the event briefly slipped off the calendar in 2018, and, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was delayed and consequently became the 24H SERIES season finale in November of 2020.

On top of that, with its 10th edition in-sight, the Hankook 12H MUGELLO is the third most tenured event on the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook calendar. The Hankook 24H BARCELONA was first organized by CREVENTIC in 2011, and can date its heritage back to 1998. The Hankook 24H DUBAI meanwhile was first held in 2006, and will celebrate its 20th edition in January 2025.

The Hankook 12H MUGELLO is routinely the longest motor race held annually at Mugello. In fact, across 12 hours, the winner will regularly complete upwards of 1,710 kilometres, effectively travelling from the northernmost point of Italy (Glockenkarkopf) to the westernmost point of Sicily (Capo Boeo)!

Heading into the 10th edition of the Hankook 12H MUGELLO, Herberth Motorsport – the 24H SERIES’ 2017 Overall GT Teams’ ‘Continents’ champion – is currently the most successful team at the event with three outright wins to its name (2015, 2020, and 2021).

Unsurprisingly, three-time winner Herberth Motorsport has also led the most cumulative laps at the Hankook 12H MUGELLO, with its #91 Porsche 911 GT3 R heading the field for 691 laps. The team’s total increases to 713 if you include the sister #92 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Two-time event winner Scuderia Praha meanwhile has led 607 laps of the Hankook 12H MUGELLO, and, on two occasions, has led more than 200 laps during a single event: the Czech team was at the front of the overall field for 281 laps en-route to victory in 2017 (the most laps led at a single event by the winner) and led 226 laps to take its second win in 2019. Only two other teams have led more than 200 laps en-route to victory: Herberth headed the field for 267 laps in 2020, while ST Racing led 245 laps to take victory in 2022.

Interestingly, Optimum Motorsport has led the fourth overall highest number of laps at the Hankook 12H MUGELLO, having led 187 laps in 2016. Brutally, not only did the British team not take victory that year, the Audi R8 LMS didn’t even make it to the chequered flag, an on-track collision having eliminated the team with just over an hour to go.

Technically, when talking about the most successful teams at the Hankook 12H MUGELLO, AF Corse and Haas RT should also be in the mix. Both teams won their only event entries to-date – in 2014 and 2023, respectively – giving them a 100 per cent win record!

Alfred Renauer, Ralf Bohn and the now-retired Daniel Allemann currently have the most overall wins to their names at the Hankook 12H MUGELLO, with all three taking the win with Herberth Motorsport in 2015, 2020 and 2021. This means, should they be victorious, Alfred Renauer and Ralf Bohn could extend that win record to four in 2024.

Interestingly, Alfred’s twin brother – and fellow team principal – Robert Renauer is currently one win behind his long-time teammates, having missed the event in 2020. A two-time victor, Robert currently has the same number of race wins as Jiří Písařík, Josef Král and Matteo Mallucelli, the trio having taken victory with Scuderia Praha in 2017 and 2019.

It won’t surprise you to learn that Herberth Motorsport’s Alfred Renauer, Ralf Bohn and Daniel Allemann currently hold the record for most overall podiums for drivers at the Hankook 12H MUGELLO with four, one more than Hofor-Racing’s Michael Kroll, Kenneth Heyer, Roland Eggimann and Christian Frankenhout

Shout out though to Switzerland’s Adrian Amstutz, who currently has three overall podiums to his name at the Hankook 12H MUGELLO, each of which was claimed with a different team. Those include Stadler Motorsport (2nd in 2014), the GRT Grasser Racing Team (3rd in 2016), and Barwell Motorsport (2nd in 2019).
