HOCKENHEIMRING (22 May, 2021) – Overall TCE Teams’ title contenders Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing and AC Motorsport will restart the Hankook 12H HOCKENHEIMRING on the same lap tomorrow in an astonishingly close fight for TCE victory.
The Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR DSG (#1, Constantin Kletzer / Jasmin Preisig / Emil Heyerdahl) and the AC Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS (#188, Stéphane Perrin / Mathieu Detry / Stefan Wieninger) have been nose-to-tail throughout part one of the event, with AC Motorsport expected to retain the TCE lead heading into the overnight intervention. Late-race brake problems though meant the Audi slipped behind the #1 Golf in the closing moments, but the pair were still split by only nine seconds after six and a half hours.
“The car was fantastic,” Stéphane Perrin explained to radiolemans.com’s Ben Constanduros. “Two laps from the end, I had a problem and I lost my brakes at the end of the straight. I hope that won’t be a big problem tomorrow, but we will try to understand what happened. We will try to avoid any [further] problems, but this is endurance!”
Behind the lead duo, the second Autorama Motorsport Volkswagen (#112, Rhys Lloyd / Christoph Hurni / Christoph Lenz / Yannick Mettler) currently rounds out the TCE podium.
The CWS Engineering Ginetta G55 (#278, Colin White / Jean- François Brunot) has recovered from a difficult start and lies 4th. The Ginetta was forced off-track on the opening lap, and having worked its way back into the TCE lead, lost more time soon after with a spin into the gravel at turn 11.
CWS’ TCX rivals – the Munckhof Racing BMW M4 GTR (#210, Eric van den Munckhof / Marco Poland) and the Autorama Motorsport SEAT León Cup Racer V1 DSG (#211, Luigi Stanco / Armando Stanco / Dario Stanco) – are currently 5th and 7th at half-distance. The pair sandwich the returning GSR Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR SEQ (#105, Ernesta Globytė / Rokas Kvedaras / Rolandas Salys / Rimvydas Savickas) in 6th.
The TOPCAR Sport CUPRA TCR DSG (#131, Ronny Jost / Fabian Danz / Ruedi Jost) rounds out the TCE division after a tough start to the Hankook 12H HOCKENHEIMRING. The Swiss team lost most of its qualifying run time to a suspected clutch issue, and fell several laps away from the TCE leaders when the onboard fire extinguisher erroneously deployed in the cockpit.
After an overnight intervention, the final five and a half hours of the Hankook 12H HOCKENHEIMRING will get underway tomorrow at 14.30 hrs local time. The event is set to run uninterrupted until the chequered flag drops at 20.00 hrs. Live streaming of the race in HD quality will be available on the official website and the 24H SERIES YouTube channel.
