Former Dubai class winner Hutchison signs with Attempto Racing for 2022 race

News | January 6, 2022

Hankook 24H DUBAI stalwart Attempto Racing has confirmed its driver line-up for the 2022 event, and one of its three drivers is 2017 TCR class winner Finlay Hutchison.

Attempto Racing has confirmed three of the drivers that will pilot its Audi R8 LMS GT3 at the upcoming Hankook 24H DUBAI, including former class winner Finlay Hutchison.

The German team has competed at every Hankook 24H DUBAI since 2008, and until 2017, ran a Porsche 911, securing a best of 3rd in-class and 7th overall in 2015. From 2019 onwards, Attempto has since competed at the Dubai Autodrome with Audi, and has registered a loan R8 LMS GT3 for the 2022 event. The team has confirmed that Finlay Hutchison will team with Alex Arkin Aka and Florian Scholze this month.

Hutchison, a former Dutch Winter Endurance champion, has competed at every Hankook 24H DUBAI since 2017, and at his maiden event outing, at just 16 years old, took TCR class victory with Cadspeed Racing on the endurance racing debut of the then-new Audi RS 3 LMS. The 21 year-old Scottish driver has since secured 2nd in-class in the GT division with both V8 Racing and Toksport WRT in 2018 and 2020 respectively.

Hutchison will also compete in the Asian Le Mans Series with Alex Arkin Aka, the latter of whom made his Hankook 24H DUBAI debut last year and has won races in the GT World Challenge Europe. Florian Scholze meanwhile, a champion in the Intercontinental GT Open in 2020, made his first 24-hour start in Dubai in 2008 (also with Attempto!) and last year took GT3-AM victory with the Haupt Racing Team.

“It’s fantastic to be back working with the guys at Attempto Racing and it’s going to be a busy start to the year,” Hutchison explains. “Between us, Alex [Aka] and I have a lot of experience of the Audi R8 and I was one of the first to race the new EVO II car in the final round of GT World Challenge Europe last season, so hopefully… we’ll be able to hit the ground running. As always, I’ll be aiming for the best results possible – hopefully we can have a successful start to 2022.”

The Attempto Racing Audi is one of 28 entrants currently set to compete in the GT3 class at the Hankook 24H DUBAI. Other notable entrants include former winners Herberth Motorsport, Schubert Motorsport and Car Collection Motorsport, which will race a Porsche 991 GT3 R, the new BMW M4 GT3, and an Audi R8 LMS respectively; Haupt Racing Team, last year’s GT3-AM class winner and the eponymous outfit of three-time event winner Hubert Haupt; reigning Overall GT Teams’ champion ST Racing, which makes the step up to GT3 this season with two BMW M4 GT3s; and Saudi Arabia’s MS7 by WRT, a multi-time outright event podium finisher.

The 24H SERIES season opener kicks off 2022 with official Free Practice on Thursday 13 January ahead of two, 55-minute Qualifying sessions later that afternoon. The race proper gets underway at 15.00 hrs local time on Friday 14 January, with racing scheduled to run uninterrupted throughout the night until the chequered flag is flown at the same time on Saturday 15 January.
