Walkenhorst Motorsport has registered two Aston Martin AMR Vantage GT3 EVOs for its first start at the 24H DUBAI in 11 years.

Walkenhorst Motorsport is set to enter two Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 EVOs for the 2025 Michelin 24H DUBAI on its first start at the event since 2014.

The German team is one of 60 teams (and 91 entries) to have already registered for the 20th edition of the 24H DUBAI as the team from Lower Saxony prepares for its first event outing in 11 years on 10-11-12 January. Moreover, Walkenhorst has also registered both Aston Martins for the Michelin 6H ABU DHABI one week later on 17-18-19 January, putting the German team into potential 24H SERIES Middle East Trophy championship contention.

“The [Michelin] 24H DUBAI will be the start of our season next year,” managing director Jörg Breuer explains. “In combination with the [Michelin] 6H ABU DHABI just one week after the 24-hour race, it offers excellent conditions to complete many kilometres under racing conditions. In addition, there are various additional test days on both circuits before the events, which we would like to use with our drivers to be well prepared for the endurance races.”

Fellow managing director Niclas Königbauer continues: “Walkenhorst Motorsport and the race tracks in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have been a success story in recent years!” – Class wins for Walkenhorst Motorsport at Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the 2023 Asian Le Mans Series ultimately secured the team a spot on the grid for that year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. – “We want to continue this in January 2025 and fight for top results with our Aston Martin in both races.

“We also want to use the races to test potential drivers for the 2025 season under racing conditions.”

On its most recent 24H DUBAI outing, Walkenhorst Motorsport, just three years after its foundation, lined up on 9th on the 79-car grid with a BMW Z4 GT3 for team founder Henry Walkenhorst, Ralf Oeverhaus, Daniela Schmid, Jens Richter, and 2011 24H DUBAI winner Claudia Hürtgen. Aptly, Team Schubert with whom Hurtgen had taken her 2011 win, was two rows further up the grid with its own example of the BMW Z4 GT3.

After running comfortably in the top 10 during the opening third of the race, Walkenhorst settled into 7th for the majority of the night stages, and eventually came home 6th overall after issues struck race-long rival GDL Racing.

BMW’s Z4 GT3 would feature in only one more 24H DUBAI after that (the Triple Eight example finished 19th overall at the event in 2015), and it would be another seven years before BMW returned to the GT3 class at the 2022 Hankook 24H DUBAI.
