Hankook 24H BARCELONA class winner Willi Motorsport by Ebimotors jumps to second in the 991-class standings following “an exhausting test” the team “dominated” at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Willi Motorsport by Ebimotors has praised drivers Fabrizio Broggi, Sergiu Nicolae and Sabino de Castro, as well as its team of mechanics and engineers, for the “exhausting test [the team] dominated” at last weekend’s Hankook 24H BARCELONA.
The Romanian-Italian collaboration, “born almost as a bet at the beginning of the year to participate in endurance races,” took its second 991-class win at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in commanding fashion. Having qualified on category pole position – after 15th overall – courtesy of Nicolae Sergiu’s 1m 51.985s during Friday’s 30-minute session, the #955 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup then went on to lead every hour of the 24-hour event en-route to 991-class victory and overall 8th-place finish.
The redemptive result comes just one round after Broggi, Nicolae and de Castro lost an almost-certain podium at the last round in Hockenheim, when brake issues brought the #955 into the pits with just 50 minutes of the race remaining. On top of the team’s earlier in the year at Mugello, this marks the first time since 2018 that Ebimotors has taken multiple wins during a 24H SERIES season.
The win has vaulted Willi Motorsport / Ebimotors to second in the 991-class championship standings behind DUWO Racing.
“A deserved triumph obtained thanks to the skill of the three drivers and the team's esteemable work,” the team explained in its official post-race communique. “In fact, an applause goes to the infallible mechanics of [team founder] Enrico Borghi's team who were able… to disassemble and check every single piece of the car that had finished the previous [race] at Hockenheim with mechanical problems.
“The three drivers then did their part with fast and precise racing stints. All three… skillfully dribbled [through] the traffic on the track, the night [stints] and the fatigue that [increased] hour after hour.
“An exhausting test dominated by Willi Motorsport by Ebimotors, with almost 3,100km completed (662 laps of the Montmelò circuit) 19 laps ahead of the second classified in-class.”
The next round of this year’s 24H SERIES – the Hankook COPPA FLORIO 12H Sicily – is set to take place at the Autodromo di Pergusa on 1-2-3 October.
