Global superstar Kumar brings glitz of Kollywood to 24H SERIES

Screaming fans and dizzying adulation are nothing new for long-standing star of Tamil cinema Ajith Kumar, but this past weekend in Dubai thousands of fans were cheering the actor’s latest exploits on the race track rather than celebrating his newest Kollywood blockbuster.

As one of the most prominent stars of the Indian film industry, with a glittering career spanning 35 years, the 53-year-old has taken his passion for motor racing to an entirely new level in 2025 by joining the increasingly popular and competitive Michelin 24H SERIES.

During the season-opening endurance race at Dubai Autodrome in the United Arab Emirates, a twice-round-the-clock 24-hour contest known as the 24H DUBAI, Kumar couldn’t have predicted the drama that would unfold – certainly a match for the script of any of his most famous movies.

With mountains to climb and every emotion experienced throughout the race on 11/12 January, the Ajith Kumar Racing by BKR team showcased immense determination, great skill and an incredible work ethic to emerge with a podium finish in the 992 class exclusively for Porsche 911 GT3 cars.

Partnered by Fabian Duffieux, Mathieu Detry and Cameron Mcleod in the No.901 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992), Kumar and his team-mates delivered a fabulous performance in one of the category’s most competitive classes.

Not satisfied racing one car in the 24H DUBAI, Kumar super-sized his involvement in the Creventic-organised encounter by conducting ‘double duty’ in the No.414 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS run by Razoon – More Than Racing.

Partnered by Dominik Olbert and Leo Pilcher in the GT4 class entry, the trio worked unbelievably hard after overcoming all sorts of issues including a fuel-related problem five hours into the race, and then brake problems which resulted in Olbert visiting the tyre wall at Turn 10 soon after.

Recovering after all of that, and more besides, the squad finished fourth in GT4. Such was the strength of the never-give-up attitude, the team was presented in the final hour of the race with the ‘Spirit of the Race’ award in celebration of their amazing work. The sort of approach which is the bedrock of 24H SERIES racing.

While the actual driving feeds Kumar’s desire for racing, he is every bit as focused on developing his involvement in the sport as a team owner and sees a very bright future indeed in the realms of the Michelin 24H SERIES.

So much so, Kumar can confirm his full-season entry in the upcoming 24H SERIES European Series which begins on 22/23 March at Mugello in Italy, the Michelin 12H MUGELLO, and then visits the legendary Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium in April.

Returning to Italy for the Michelin 12H MISANO in May, the series then heads to Paul Ricard in France in July before the second twice-round-the-clock race of the year – the Michelin 24H BARCELONA in Spain on 27/28 September.

Not only will the European season provide Kumar with tremendous experience at some of the world’s greatest and well-known circuits, the 24H SERIES is known for its strength in depth through its popular structure and the great mix of talent – from ‘Gentleman’ drivers to full professionals.

This is the beauty of the 24H SERIES, racers of all abilities can share the track with like-minded others and ultimately grow as racing drivers. With more and more experience, of course, they can then progress through the different classes if they so desire.

Ajith Kumar has long-since conquered Kollywood, now the world-famous film star is aiming to emulate that success behind the wheel and become an absolute motor racing hero for the globe’s most populous nation.
