Renovated and modernised to Formula One standards, the Paul Ricard has been for ten years the host of private and official tests for various international championships such as the private tests of F1 World Championship teams, of World Series by Renault FR 3.5 and FR 2.0, GP2 and GP3 Series (the main feeder series for Formula 1), but also tests and French rounds of Le Mans Series, FIA GT1 World Championship and World Series by Renault…
The Paul Ricard Circuit has one of the longest straight lines in Europe, the Mistral straight: 1.8km. This makes it ideal for Sport Prototypes teams to carry out full-scale tests and so to achieve the best preparation possible for the famous endurance race.
Every team which has won Le Mans 24 Hours since 2002 has prepared their victory on the Paul Ricard. But other motorsport disciplines are not left behind: a wide variety of professional teams including DTM, Formula 3, Formula Renault V6 and Historic GT choose the Paul Ricard Circuit for their tests and races.
The facilities at the Paul Ricard, with its innovations in technology, design and architecture, make it an ideal location for general motor-related communications, event operations, leisure and entertainment.
The safety of the Paul Ricard HTTT is based on a number of major innovations and a set of control and information technologies which enable the track management, medical and rescue teams to intervene in record time.
These innovations have been validated by the FIA and are now being adopted on new F1 circuits:
Run-off: asphalt run-off zones replacing gravel beds. The run-offs, highlighted by the red and blue colour strips of the Blue Line™ concept, offer crucial advantages for safety through their abrasive surface which slows down vehicles going off the track.
TecPro High Speed Barriers: crushable polyethylene blocks lining the safety barriers, replacing the old tyre walls. The key innovation of this system is its capacity to absorb impact energy to reduce shock to the driver.
ACO Monoblock Racing Drains: high-strength concrete/polyester gutters which ensure that the track is well drained. These gutters, which can withstand the stresses of being repeatedly driven over, provide an extra guarantee of safety for the drivers.
Ultra-refined watering system enabling rainy driving conditions to be reproduced on 64 of the circuit’s track configurations.
Lighting system: four-colour signaling lights (red, yellow, green and blue) enable the track management to send information to the drivers. These replace the conventional flags waved by track marshals, and enable track teams as well as drivers, to react faster.
Rescue teams: support teams with high-speed vehicles crewed by two track marshals, who train all year round, particularly in fire control and driver extraction.
