MOGYORÓD (April 6th, 2013) – Dutch driver Nico Pronk drove the Blancpain Racing-Lamborghini LP560-4 across the finish line to claim victory for himself and team mates Peter Kox and Marc Hayek in the fifth running of the Dunlop 12H HUNGARY. In the race, Europe’s only twelve-hour race for GTs, touring cars and 24H Specials, organised by Dutch agency CREVENTIC and DNRT, the trio had racked up a total of 344 laps of the 4.381 kilometres long Hungaroring, equalling a total distance of 1,507.064 kilometres. “It was a great race, we had no problem whatsoever. As this was the first competitive outing for our 2013-spec Lamborghini Gallardo, we couldn’t have hoped for a better debut. The car was quick and reliable,” said Nico Pronk. While victory for the Blancpain Racing team was never in doubt, the battle for second place remained thrilling till the chequered flag was out. Eventually, the Australian Motorsport Services team had the upper hand with its Porsche 997 Cup car, driven by Australians Malcolm Niall, Mark Pilatti and Brett Niall. This trio also secured the class win in the 997 category. French team Defi Auto Sport was classified third with the GC Automobile GC 10-V8, driven by Lionel Amrouche, Franck Leone Provost and Jean-Charles Perrin, who also won class SP3.
Apart from two laps after the first pit stop, victory for the Blancpain Racing team was a lights-to-flag affair. With pole position, a race win and the fastest race lap, driven by Peter Kox on lap 275 with a lap time of 1:49.026 minutes, the team even scored a genuine hattrick. “For us, this race played a major role in preparation for our campaigns in the Blancpain Endurance Series and the FIA GT Series. We are really glad with the performance of the car,” said Peter Kox. For Marc Hayek, winning the Dunlop 12H HUNGARY was his first maiden international race win. “A great way to start the season,” the Swiss commented.
For most of the race, there was a good battle for victory in the Porsche 997 Cup class between the Motorsport Services entry and the French B2F Compétition team with drivers Benoit and Bruno Fretin, which eventually saw the Australian team coming out on top. In SP3, Defi Auto Sport was in the lead throughout the second half of the race after early contenders, Turkish team Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport, had retired due to a broken flywheel on its BMW M3.
Victory in the D1 diesel class also was a lights-to-flag affair for the Red Camel-Jordans.nl SEAT Leon TDI, driven by Austrian Klaus Kresnik and Australian Aldous Mitchell. In the A2 class, the Danish DK Racing Event’s Renault Clio with René Rasmussen, Bernt Stott Jorgensen, Joakim Rasmussen and Sonny Nielsen also led throughout the second half of the race to score a relatively comfortable class win.
CREVENTIC’s Gerrie Willems drew a positive verdict after the race. “We have seen some good competition in the various classes and a wide variety of cars on the track and drivers from 13 different countries. Admittedly, we didn’t have the biggest field, but the atmosphere was good and everybody enjoyed the race at this beautiful circuit.” The next event for CREVENTIC is the 24H BARCELONA, September 6th till 8th, 2013.
